Jan Sanders

As interviewed by Matthew Winkler, March 18, 2016
"They formed that (Women's Center of Dallas). They worked with the medical school and police department in relation to domestic violence and rape and I produced a video tape of a dramatization of a kind of scene that can take place in a family where violence occurred and how it can be dealt with in a more humane way."

Introductory Profile: About Jan Sanders

I interviewed Jan Sanders, a friend of my grandmothers, who was born in 1931 in Dallas, Texas, where she also grew up. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and got her Master's degree from SMU in TV, Film & Broadcast. She has four kids, and ten grandchildren, and was married to Barefoot Sanders, a federal district judge. I interviewed her in the living room of her house, where she was very kind and encouraging and also very knowledgeable about a wide range of topics.

Jan Sanders talked about her involvement in Womens Rights, specifically her role in the League of Women Voters and the Womens Center for Dallas. She also discussed the stereotypes and roles of women and how they affected her. Overall the interview was very relaxed, and informal. I was impressed by the fact that Jan Sanders has worked towards equality for women and for all people her whole life; as a young person, as an adult, and as an older person.
