"Sometimes Saba would get down from the bus and she would be crying.... She was the only brown child in that school ."
Atiq and Amina Khan

Introductory Profile: About Amina and Atiq Khan

Amina and Atiq are my grandparents. They are very lively and love to travel all over the world. They came to America from Pakistan in the 1970s and have lived here ever since. They are in their 60s and 70s but still walk everyday. Amina (Nani) loves to garden. Atiq (Nana) loves to play golf. They are both hardworking and determined people.

I interviewed them about their immigration process and early life in America, and we touched on being Muslim in America post 9/11. They were reluctant to give any negative information about their story because they are successful as American citizens; and they didn’t want to seem ungrateful. I had to talk to them a lot to get a little bit of information about hardships they faced, but I learned a lot about my grandparents.
