Introductory Profile: About Karen Swenson

My interviewee is Dr. Karen Swenson. She is an Obstetrician Gynecologist (OBGYN) and works at Women’s Partners in Health at Seton Hospital here in Austin. She has a degree in nutrition from the University of California at Davis. She went to medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and did her residency at the University of California again. She has worked for Women’s Partners in Health for 32 years.

I know Dr. Swenson because she works with my mother. She is 62 years old and was born in 1954. Dr. Swenson is medium height with short brown hair and glasses. She has lots of opinions and is very open. She had two children. She is a member of 2 book clubs. Her hobbies include pilates, rowing, hiking, playing bridge and traveling.

During my interview with Dr. Swenson, we talked about going to medical school as a woman. She told me about how she was treated differently because she was a girl. We also discussed abortion rights in Texas and her experience testifying against a law about abortion. She spoke about women’s rights and gave excellent arguments. Overall Dr. Swenson was an amazing interviewee and gave me lots of her thoughts. It was an amazing experience to interview her.
