Introductory Profile: About Susan Eckel

My interviewee’s name is Susan Eckel. Susan Eckel is my grandma on my mom’s side. She grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and she went to school through high school there. Susan went to the University of Michigan, and she got her Master'ss degree in Early Childhood Development. She is 75 at the time of the interview and lives in Houston. She taught preschool and younger elementary school kids in Michigan and Texas. She has lived in Grosse Pointe, Ann Arbor, Lancing, San Antonio, and Houston over the course of her life.

We talked about her time teaching and the sexism she encountered in the 50s and 60s when she was growing up and teaching. This podcast contains an excerpt about children she encountered at a preschool she taught at in Ann Arbor. She had done some research beforehand into her past and had even brought pictures. This interview is a comfortable and conversational discussion of events she had experienced. Let me give a big thank you to Susan Eckel for being such a great interviewee and helping me with my project.
