Introductory Profile: About José Eduardo Pérez Gómez

José Eduardo Pérez Gómez is the full name of my interviewee, but he goes by Eduardo. I interviewed him at El Pastor over an excellent lunch of carne guisada. My mom works with Eduardo, and she told me that Eduardo would be happy to be interviewed by me.

Eduardo is from Mexico, and his mother immigrated to the United States with 10 year-old Eduardo and his younger sister. Eduardo had to grow up faster than many, because he needed to help his mother, who was single, take care of his sister. He is serious and extremely passionate about the people who are immigrating and the citizens of the country that they are immigrating to. He is always willing to educate people about the misconceptions of immigration.

He talked a lot about how Americans see immigrants, what immigrants actually are and what they actually have to go through. He did mention his own experience, but he talked more in general terms of what he believes most immigrants go through. The interview was light, fun, and casual, despite the fact that this was the first time we had met. I learned a lot more than I expected, and the whole discussion was very interesting.
