Introductory Profile: About Nishi Rane

For my interview I spoke with Nishi Rane about immigrating to the United States. I met Nishi many years ago because she is my good friend Malvika’s mom. When we first got this project I immediately thought of interviewing Nishi. She immigrated to the United States from India when she was 24 years old for her residency program. Nishi is a tall, thin woman of Indian descent with long black hair and dark eyes, she is soft-spoken and has a very friendly smile. She is very strong, dedicated, and smart. I thought it would be interesting to find out what her experiences were like while she was immigrating to the United States.

During the interview at Nishi’s house we covered many things, all of which were closely related to or tied to the immigration process. One thing that came up a lot was all of the difficulties Nishi had coming here and the kinks in the immigration process. She talked about all of the things she would want to fix with the way the immigration system works. Nishi also talked a lot about the way she was feeling during different stages of the immigration process.

Overall the interview went pretty well. At the beginning I think we were both a bit nervous but as the interview went on we both loosened up and got much more comfortable. I had a great time interviewing Nishi Rane and I learned so much about her and the immigration process in general.
