"It was important, because it's part of their culture."
Mary Anne Longenecker

Introductory Profile: About Mary Anne Longenecker

This interview is about my grandmother Mary Anne Longenecker. Although Mary Anne grew up in upstate New York in a small town, at an early age she set off for an adventure across the sea. She joined the Peace Corps and went to Thailand to teach English. She stayed in Thailand for about three years and learned a lot about the Thai culture. My mom was born in Thailand while my grandmother was there teaching.

I was a little nervous about the interview. But, because Mary Anne is my grandmother, it was very chill and not rushed. I think we both did the interview very well and I got some good stories for you to hear. The story you are about to hear highlights one of her greatest memories. Her story about a student she taught shows how differently they live than we do.

I enjoyed getting to interview my grandmother. Thailand seems different than the U.S. I think my grandmother is very proud of what she did. She helped the U.S. and a lot of people in Thailand. She worked very hard and accomplished a lot.
