Introductory Profile: About Ballint Dezso

Steve Dezso, My grandfather, was born on June 29th, 1938 in Budapest, Hungary. My grandfather is a very happy person. He loves to make things out of wood, like bird houses and little heat pads for pots and pans. He also loves to play and watch soccer, and he taught me how to kick a soccer ball when I was three. He met my grandmother while going to school at the University of Arkansas. My grandparents now live in Alvin, a suburb of Houston, where my dad grew up. In Hungary, his name was Ballant Dezso, but when he came to the U.S. he changed it to Steve.

I interviewed my grandfather about when he lived in Hungary, what it was like to live under Soviet occupation, how he escaped into Austria during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, and what happened when he got to America. Lastly we talked about the effect all of this had on Hungary and what my grandfather thought of all this. The interview was very interesting and full of interesting stories.
