Introductory Profile: About Paula McDermott

For this project I chose my mother, Paula McDermott, for my interviewee. She attended the University of the Pacific for her undergraduate degrees. For her graduate degrees she attended the University of Texas at Austin. Paula McDermott earned a Masterís in Public Policy at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies.

With these degrees Paula has done a lot of work in the area of social justice. During her time with the Peace Corps, Paula McDermott helped to give women more rights and power in Honduras. She also did work to help people living with HIV and AIDS. In addition, my mother worked with people with developmental disabilities who got caught up in the criminal justice system (some of them wrongly). Finally, and currently, she is working to support a sustainable regional food system in Austin and Travis County, and to get people easier access to good food.
