As Interviewed by Harrison Knight, March 20, 2019
Introductory Profile: About Jeff Knight
Jeff Knight, my father, was born in 1962 to James and Alice Knight in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Jeff Knight is one of the kindest people I know. He always sticks up for people with less power than him and stops other people from punching down. He’s very witty and always has the dumbest jokes that make you laugh anyway. He is a huge nerd, and also an incredible writer. He works as an editor for the city of Austin.
In 1974, the general knowledge of genetic diseases was very limited. He assumed his father was just disengaged. Little did he know that his father had Huntington’s disease, or HD for short. By the time he was diagnosed, it was too late, his decline had already started. It was and is still to this day incurable. When his brother started fidgeting, adn speaking with slurred sentences, they both knew what it was. Every child born to a parent with the gene for HD has a 50/50 chance of getting it, but due to the poor technology at the time, the tests were not accurate. Jeff had to live with the feeling that any day, he could have to say goodbye to the people he loved.
