Irma Castanon

As Interviewed by Juan Castanon, March 16, 2019
"I want to be able to give back to and maybe join a non-profit organization to help other immigrants like me at the beginning and the most important thing is to see my children achieve their dreams."

Introductory Profile: About Irma Castanon

Irma Castanon is a 40-year-old woman and mother of two children. She is a kind, strict, over-protective mother figure. And I know this, because she is my own mom!

Aside from being a mom, Irma is a nurse, who works to help people. In our interview we talked about her experience and opinions on immigration. She immigrated from Mexico to the United States when she was in high school. First, she lived with her aunt in Laredo, TX, until she moved to Austin, TX when she was in her late teens.

I want to say that Irma is the best mother I could have asked for. She is very kind-hearted, and works to get along with everyone. Her co-workers say that the hospital wouldn't be such a happy, cheerful place if she weren't there. She always tries to do her best and more. For example, she's always bugging me about every little thing, because she wants me to be a responsible person, and to work up to my full potential. Ever since I was little, she always encouraged me to improve and push myself academically and socially.

Our interview was slightly awkward at first, because we were both a little nervous about what to say. Even though we've both been on TV several times, we wanted to keep good posture, maintain a strong tone of voice, speak confidently, and express our ideas clearly. But once we got into the mood and rhythm of it, we found a good pace and the interview went along swiftly.
